Los Cabos Mexico- A Travel Guide

LOS CABOS MEXICO- A TRAVEL GUIDE

Are you ready for a lengthy beachside lounging session in Los Cabos? For those of you who are looking to make this a reality in the near term or simply dreaming & planning for the future, consider this your Los Cabos travel guide!

Set on the Sea of Cortez, and located on the southern tip of Mexico’s Baja California Sur, greater Los Cabos encompasses the 20 mile stretch of beachfront resort properties that connects the towns of Cabo San Lucas and San Jose Del Cabo. Known for it’s dramatic coastline, mountainous desert backdrop, year long sunshine, Mexican hospitality and an abundance of activities- it makes the perfect destination for families, couples, groups and essentially anyone looking for a spectacular warm weather getaway.

Los Cabos has always been easily accessible from the US South and West Coast but with a recent increase in direct flight options from NYC airports (on United, Delta and American), it is also a great option for East Coast residents. But is it safe to travel to Mexico right now? This is a personal decision that everyone needs to make based on their own research and individual risk tolerance but I can say that Los Cabos is taking a very conservative approach. When they re-opened resorts in early summer of 2020 (they did voluntarily lock down in April) they came up with a multi-phase plan that began with 30% capacity and has since ramped up to 50%. Given the reduced operating capacity, sprawling nature of it’s properties, and mild weather one can social distance with ease. Staff are required to wear masks, sanitizer is extremely accessible, temperature checks are given upon arrival to your hotel, menus are by QR code and some resorts have even installed site wide shoe cleaners.

Where to stay?

Possibly the only problem you will have with your Los Cabos vacation is choosing from the massive variety of luxurious resorts available. Here is my curated list of Los Cabos properties to consider.

Chileno Bay, part of the Auberge collection, is situated in a protective cove which gives it the advantage of a swimmable beach and is known for it’s chic design and reliably Auberge style hospitality.

Now that you’ve decided on the resort of your Los Cabos dreams, what can you expect to do? If sitting on the beach for long periods of time drinking margaritas makes you antsy, Cabo hosts a wealth of other activities to keep you occupied.

Whale watching– The best time to observe these gentle giants (including Gray & Humpback whales) is during their seasonal migration to the area from December through April and many charter options are available- from catamarans to luxury yachts.

Golf– Los Cabos is literally made for golf with its stunning backdrops, varied terrain and seaside breezes. 4 of its 18 courses were ranked amount the World’s Best Courses (US excluded).

Horseback riding– On the beach. What more is there to say? Make sure to bring someone along to snap some obviously instagram-worthy shots of you.

Scuba & snorkeling excursions– Where the Pacific and the Gulf of California meet is the Sea of Cortez which is considered to be one of the most biologically diverse marine environments in the world. Snorkel amongst dolphins and depending on your dive site, you can expect to see colorful coral and and array of creatures such as hammerheads and Mako sharks, Manta rays, Stingrays, turtles, eels and tuna.

Explore San Jose Del Cabo– This town is considered the cultural heart of the Los Cabos area and known for it’s vibrant art district and amazing culinary scene.

Boating– What better way to take in the stunning natural beauty of Los Cabos than from the water? With a variety of boats to choose from- sailboats, glass bottom boats, speedboats or even pirate ships-pick your vessel and get cruising.
